DARING Wins American Yacht Club Spring Series in Rye, NY

Two consecutive weekends of racing with eight races held over four days with completely different conditions was the season opener for many US boats.   Four Swan 42s competed in a very competive IRC Division.

John Hele (NY) and DARING prevailed on the final day in a very close contest with a Swan 45 and a Ker 43, among others, to squeak by with the win.    Roger Widmann's (NY) Swan 42, QUINTESSENCE, just missed the podium while tying on points for 3rd place but losing to the Ker 43.  Chris Culver's BLAZER finished 6th, and Gosia Rojek's BETTER THAN... settled for 9th.

"It was a blast", said Hele.  "We had dfferent conditions all four days and we made a crew change after the first weekend," he added.  "We had a great time with great racing against a lot of very tough and competitive boats", Hele went on to say.  Lastly, he noted, "This series was not easy at all, but it is extremely enjoyable competing in One Design as well as IRC."

In additon to winning the IRC Division, Hele was presented with the Commodore Edward L. Richards Trophy.  This perpetual trophy was awarded to the IRC boat with the best score after two weekends of racing in the Spring Series.
