East Coast US End of Summer Wrap-Up
Chris Culver’s (CT/RI) Swan 42 BLAZER placed 3rd in the NYYC Queen’s Cup 12-mile race. The Queen’s Cup, given by Queen Elizabeth II of England to the NYYC in 1953, is unique in that the starting gun gives a two-minute spread for boats to cross the starting line. The Race Committee takes each yacht’s time at the start and finish in order to calculate the elapsed time in the race. While the regatta is comprised of just one race the Race Committee usually builds the course with a mixture of triangles and windward/leeward legs to compliment the variety of entries.
John Hele’s (NY/RI) DARING placed 5th in the race.
In the NYYC Astor Cup, BLAZER was 1st in Class followed by Paul Zabetakis’s (FL/RI) IMPETUOUS in 3rd, and DARING took 4th.
At the 2016 Yacht Racing Championship of Long Island (CT) Swan 42 QUINTESSENCE owned by Roger Widmann (NY) won the PHRF 1 (<70) Division with 1-2-1-4 finishes.
