"Natalia" Wins the Rolex Swan Cup for the Third Consecutive Time
Race Day 4 at the Rolex Swan Cup was off to an earlier than usual start with the threat of incrasing winds later in the day. A coastal race of 18 nautical miles was scheduled - a cherished race given the stunning landscape and many islands off Sardinia. Given the scores posted the night before Natalia Brailoiu (ROU) and NATALIA did not even need to race. What they did do is demonstrate exactly why they deserved to win the Rolex Swan Cup for the third consecutive time.
Charter Helmsman Iacopo Lacerra (ITA) and BEWILD led for the first half of the race with NATALIA chipping away at BEWILD's lead until it was gone. NATALIA finished the race in 1st and Massimo de Campo (ITA) and SELENE-ALIFAX were 2nd. BEWILD took 3rd and Jose Maria Meseguer (ESP) and PEZ DE ABRIL were 4th.
NATALIA was the runawaywinner of the regatta with a 2-1-1-1-1-1-1-1 for 8 points. BEWILD was 2nd with 18 points, and PEZ DE ABRIL was 3rd with 20.1. The results across the fleet were outstanding as the Rolex Swan Cup was the first time that six of the ten competitors had ever raced in Class One Design.
The final prize-giving was held brielfy on Piazza Azzurra. Just as the Swan 42 Class European Chanpionship award was about to be presented a deluge of rain drove the ceremonies into Yacht Club Costa Smeralda. NATALIA walked away with all four Daily Prizes, the Swan 42 Class European Championship, 1st Place overall in the Swan 42 Class E Division, and the Rolex Swan Cup that she shares with the winners of the other classes.
When asked what winning her third consecutive Rolex Swan Cup meant to her she said with a twinkle in her eye, "I guess that means I will be back in 2018 to defend my title."
