"Nadir" Takes Line Honors for the Second Time at 36 Copa del Rey MAPFRE

The Embat (thermal wind) still has been kept at bay with the excessive heat conditions and is expected to continue for the remainer of the regatta at 36 Copa del Rey MAPFRE.  This has clearly required patience from both the Race Commitee and participants.  Sailors and Race Orgaizers alike say they have never experieced anything like this for this long a duration.  Maybe a day, but not potentially a week.

Once again, a more than two-hour postponement on the water led to the completion of only one race.   Pedro Vaquer Comas would claim his second bullet of the regatta with NADIR (ESP).  "We had a clear start and stayed away from the others", he said.  "We really enjoy the One Design sailing and seeing the Spanish boats doing well," he added.

Jose Maria Meseguer and PEZ DE ABRIL (ESP) placed 2nd in Race 5 while Alberto Franchi and DIGITAL BRAVO (ITA) took 3rd.

"Sailing in One Design is much better and more interesting than sailing in ORC and gives us reason to grow and improve," said Bernarda Franchi, owner Alberto's, sister.  "You are proud when you are representing you club and your country," she added.

Alessio Razeto from DIGITAL BRAVO said, "We started not too close to the pin as the pin end was favored so we had good speed by staying away. We had a bad shift that was terrible for us."  He added, "The first downwind leg was not fantastic, but we were third at the second windward mark and while two of the Spanish boats were having a fight downwind to the finish line, we took 2nd Place."

In the BWM ORC 1 Division Dominique Luna Tudela's (ITA) MARINA GREENWICH (MAGICAL) was 3rd in Race 6 while Diana Corominus Guerin and Jordi Costa were 7th with BLUE in this 35-boat fleet.
